Import info
Any reference to parent on this web site includes guardians and any person who has legal permission from the parent or guardian to give consent to Go-Ride activities.
This information pack aims to provide information about our club – and provide details about how we can be contacted and how to find out more about our activities
Who are we, what do we do?
Minehead Go-Ride is a locally based cycling club for children that forms part of British Cycling’s Go-Ride programme – the club is run by cycling enthusiasts and the club aims to provide activities for children that are fun, healthy and that develop their bike handling and racing skills in a safe environment.
The club activities are run by our British Cycling qualified licensed coaches who have attended good practice and child protection training, all of whom are volunteers. They are helped by other volunteers.
Who can be a Member?
Our Members are the children who ride in the club - we aim to cater for children aged normally from 8 to 16 years old, in exceptional circumstances we may accept other ages.
We welcome parents to all cycling activities to watch or to help out; we are keen to involve parents in the club in many different ways – anyone interested in helping who would like to find out more can ask anyone who is coaching or helping out during our club sessions, or alternatively our website provides contact details.
Where do we meet and when?
We mainly meet Saturday mornings during term time at the West Somerset Leisure Centre, Bircham Road, Alcombe, Minehead, Somerset TA24 6AY. However we also have some activities, sometimes with other Go-Ride clubs, in other locations for a bit of variety and fun. The exact dates, times and locations of activities are published on our Website and are sent in Newsletters by email to parents.
How do we contact each other?
Our website contains lots of useful information, however we will also send Newsletters by email and texts to parents about upcoming activities and other news – much of which we will also announce at the end of each session.
In an emergency we will contact parents by the phone number supplied on the membership form.
We can be contacted by phone, email or post – all contact details can be found on our website. Parents must let us know of any changes, including contact details.
What are the costs?
The club has a small membership fee and fees for each terms activities which should be paid in full at the start of each term. These will be notified by email in our Newsletter before each term and published on this web site – they can also be found out by contacting us.
We keep the costs as low as we can in order to be affordable to as many people as possible – if however any parent is having difficulty affording these costs, they can contact us in order that we can discuss how we can help.
Important Information:
Getting to and from the club
The parent should make arrangements for their child to travel to and from coaching sessions and competitions.
We would like Members to arrive on time (if they arrive early they will need to wait with their parent before entering the session) and be collected promptly at the end of a training session or competition. If anyone is going to be late picking their child up, they should contact one of our coaches or helpers – names and mobile phone numbers can be found on our Website. Please be aware that not every coach and every helper attends every session.
Disability and Medical Information:
We ask for details of any disabilities or medical conditions, relevant to participating in the Club, in our Membership Application and Consent Form. For the safety of all children, it is important that the club is kept informed of any changes or recent injuries that may be relevant.
If a parent would like to talk to someone at the club about this information or their child’s involvement with the club, please contact our British Cycling trained and approved Welfare Officer – who can be contacted via the Links Page.
In the case of accidents or illness or concerns over child safety/welfare:
In the case of serious accidents or illnesses, we will try to contact the parent immediately using the information supplied on the membership application form and will deal the accident / illness using the information supplied on the membership application form. If parents have any particular guidance for the club under these circumstances they should inform us by adding a comment to the Membership Application and Consent Form. With all club activities, in all locations, we take a first aid kit and have access to information on local emergency services.
If a parent has any concerns over child safety / child welfare / child protection, please either contact:
